Clark County Democrat Party Chairman

Goliath has been hearing rumors, for months, that we are due to get a new Party Chairman.  Rod Pate is coming around the curve apparently and for one reason or another is believed to be on his way out.

As for his tenure,  it was never a truly comfortable situation when he was an  City (of Jeffersonville) employee and therefore, under the direction of a public office holder.  However, those who pay attention to such things,
realized that despite the appearance of bad influence,   this simply wasn't the case as Rod proved when he failed to 'punish' Mike Hutt ....the one self appointed Inspector Javert to Galligan's Valjean.  Instead,  he gave Hutt
a 'consolation' prize of a precinct chair when Hutt failed to secure one in his district over Beth Valentine.

But,  Mr. Pate's legacy  was mixed.  He supervised the caucus that led to the controversy in replacing Judge Donahue's successor,  he presided as Mike Moore bolted the party and a three challenger's were  'allowed' to emerge to challenge Pate's boss, Tom G.  So...he will go down in the books as a very nice guy but not
exactly a Boss Tweed head banger.  Goliath kind of likes the head banger type but,  in the real world it may be okay to be a 'nice guy' sometimes.

All of which leads us to the succesor to Mr. Pate.  Out there in the little circles where people care about such
matters,  Goliath can report that the most frequently heard names are  Joe Renck and Dave Abbott.  As far as Goliath knows,  both these fellows are good guys and long time loyal democrats.  But, Goliath sorry to say
he is not convinced that either man is up to the task of leading the whole  Clark County Democrat Party .

Joe Renck has a solid history of courthouse expertise of a kind.  He is a guy who knows how to get things done....but he wouldn't appear to have legs outside of Jeffersonville.  His good old boy manner might play well at the Hibernia Coon Supper, but then again...it might not.   Dave Abbott is a Charlestown boy and has good connections in the Charlestown wing of the Dem party (as well as subterranean connections to Clarksville....but so does Joe)  but Jeff boys and girls will NEVER take him for a leader in Goliath's giant opinion.

As a compatriot said today....the Dems are looking at possibly a ten year long drought locally.  The county government is well and truly Screwed...for at least five years.  We have a presidential election coming up
where the Dem candidate (presumably Obama) was not a favorite in Clark County.  Our good friends the
Clark County Republicans know this,  smell it and can almost taste it.  If they can get themselves set up right
and overcome their own local screwed up problems they can tear down the Democratic Domination we have
enjoyed in Clark County lo these many DECADES.

So,  Goliath wonders....is Joe or Dave  THE GUY that we want leading us in this fight?    Just remember
guys and gals....like every election....but even MORE SO IN THE ONES AHEAD....this is about the FUTURE.   What will Joe or Dave look like to your average 30 year old politically awakening Clark County
Citizen?   Goliath thinks they are going to not look too appealing.  (Thank goodness the Repubs counter with Jamey Noel. Geesh!)

I can only say one thing....on a side note,  we all know that when Steve Stewart steps down in a few years,
there will be a showdown likely between a. Jake Elder,  b. Bob Bottorff, c. Brit Blau (Maybe...did I just say that?).  and a young republican.    Bob Bottorff would likely be a shoo in if he served some time as County
Chairman before this race....and he's the only one with ties in the country and in the city strong enough to
win Chairman (in GHO)

Bob is young enough.  He has campaign experience (see father, see mother, see K.P.)  So...you read it
here first. Goliath nominates Bob Bottorff for County Chair.

Brother Goliath:
Brilliant!

The solution is at hand if there is anyone wise enough to see it through.

Yesterdays meeting really got the Mighty Goliath thinking. History has a way of doing that.

Your solution is very impressive.
The 'Hood salutes your insight.

Joe Renck? Let the indictments fly!!!

I concur.
Renck is rediculous.
If all the stories ever came out from the last 20 years.......

The Republicans would LOVE to see Joe Renck as the new Clark County Democrat Chair.
What a joke!

"You betcha!"

Now if we can just convince Bob to run.

Perhaps after Tom lays the wood to Mike Moore in November we can convince him to come back over to The Dem side and be our party chair.

Maybe we could also get Glen Murphy Jr to do it. He did a pretty good job when he was The Republican Chair. That might work.

What's wrong with Jamey?

He switched to the Democrat party....lmao!!! (couldn't resist)

Jamey? Jamey Noel is a pasty face dough boy cop of the worst kind. In it for the power trip. Why do you think he combines being a cop with being a pol. Plus....doesn't he have something to do with firemen? On the outside mr. good guy but on the inside...believe me he is an ass.

I think Jamey Noel is a pretty good guy. Well aside from being a Republican... In all honesty I do think he is a good person who has done a good job making The Republican party viable in Clark County. Someone above asked if he was also involved in fire services and the answer to that is yes. He has done wonders in Utica resurecting the Utica Volunteer Fire Dept. He really has done a lot of things for the community and I respect him for that. I may not agree with his politics but I respect him as a man for what he does for the community.

OK,OK, OK.....here's the deal!
The Democrat Party trades Joe Renck, Dave Abbott, and a playar' to be named for Jamey Noel!
That solves a LOT of problems, believe me!
Hoe 'bout it?

Glen Murphy has served
enough punishment time
wandering in the desert
and has been punished adequately. He did a good job
as chairman.
He could contest the race
for Clark County
Republican County Chair
against newly traded
"power-broker- boys"
Renck and Abbott.
Those two dim bulbs
should be no trouble for him to defeat!

"You Betcha!"

Does Renck-The-Dim get to keep his pretend "no show" job and his shiney big taxpayer paid for truck?
How DID he get that court job to start with?

"You Betcha!"
Actually, the Democrat Party
needs
new blood with vision,
drive, and integrity. Organizational skills!

Not just the same old atavistic and biased power brokers.

I think that ABBYSNANA
would be a fine leader
for the party if she would accept a draft for county chair!

I do believe Abbysnana could kick somebody's butt.

What about a younger person to take the reigns of The Clark County Democrats. I would like to nominate Keith Fetz. He is finishing up his term on Jeff's City Council and he is a well known name in Clark county. He is still a fairly young man and a very good Democrat. I feel he would bring the energy and attitude needed to bring The Democratic Party into this century.

Yes, Keith Fetz would be an excellent choice for CC Democrat Chair. How does it happen? What needs to be done to get the power brokers to wake up and go along? Keith could save their butts in 2011, 2012, and 2014.

Lono, Curse of.

Keith would be a good choice for the Democrats. I agree that his youth and experience would be an asset. I would not go so far as to discount Joe or Dave. Both are good guys...maybe not the best choice, but loyal to the party and deserving of respect for their contributions. What about Dustin White?

As far as Jamey - he has done a lot more for the Republicans than people realize and is smarter than people give him credit for. He is quiet, but gets things done.

Whew......after reading that statement, I can say that honor and chivalry are not totally dead within the CC Democrat Party!
Abbott is a good guy putting forth effort, but to be such a gentleman/gentlelady as to say that Renck...
is "deserving of respect" for his "contributions".....Gasp!

Either Bob Bottorff or Keith Fetz would bring a lot of ability and energy to the job of Clark County Democrat Chair.
All citizens of Clark County would benefit from their efforts in political service.
It would take an unselfish attitude by many hateful power brokers and jealous persons putting aside their petty feelings to see the task accomplished.
It would take an attitude of graciousness like the sevility displayed by "anonymous" above.

Come on, Joe Renck, what is that about? David Abbott is nice enough but vision is required for this position. Younger Democrats and progressives are tired as hell of the "Way it Was" mentality of the Democratic party. We need someone who can bring the party together, we need someone who is an organizer, we need someone who knows how to connect with state, regional, and national politicians and parties. We need someone who will carry, with enthusiasm, the re-election of our President. I like Bob Bottoroff and I think he would position himself to have thr right kind of "lieutenants" around him, like: John Grannan; Andrew Steele; Keith Fetz; and many others. Keith would be preferential to all others because of his experience with elected office and running campaigns however, the rift between he and conventional democrats would get in the way. I hope we put all that aside and think of the party and the purpose.
